Leading From Where You Stand: An Exploration of Your Leadership Journey
Wednesday, February 26
9am - 4:30pm
Everyone is a leader, no matter what your job title or area of responsibility. Join your arts, science, and culture colleagues for a day of exploration of your role as a leader, wherever you stand in your organization. The 2020 Smith Leadership Symposium will provide all participants with a day of learning, growth, reflection, and support.
The morning begins with a discussion of leadership at all levels. Then a panel of three senior leaders from museums and cultural organizations will share stories about challenges they faced at different stages in their own leadership journeys. In the afternoon, participants will explore your own leadership challenges in smaller breakout groups. One-on-one peer consultation and time for individual reflection will be followed by a concluding session and a reception, where participants will have the opportunity to socialize with one another and with the speakers and facilitators.
The 2020 Smith Leadership Symposium will be led and facilitated by members of the Informal Learning Leadership Collaborative (ILLC), a group of leaders of museums and science centers with extensive experience in mentorship and facilitation. More than 20 members of the ILLC, from the US and around the world, will be at the 2020 Smith Leadership Symposium, providing participants with an extraordinary opportunity to meet, connect, and network with senior leaders of small and large organizations.
